Where do we depart from?
Howard’s Landing Marina
95 Marine Parade, Southport, QLD 4215

We are located on the jetty behind the blue bait and tackle shop which is situated between the Broadwater Parkland Boat Ramp and the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. Our vessel departs from Hammerhead Cove and is next to the OZDIVE pontoon.

The Southport tram stop is within short walking distance and there is onsite parking available as well.

If coming from the M1 simply take the Smith Street Motorway exit.

We recommend you arrive at least 30 minutes early to find a car park and to allow time for the safety briefing. Parking can be paid for at the parking machines located in the carpark. We recommend downloading the EasyPark app to pay for your parking on the day.

We recommend you arrive at least 30 minutes early to find a car park and to allow time for the safety briefing. Parking can be paid for at the parking machines located in the carpark. For ease, we recommend downloading the EasyPark app to pay for your parking on the day.

Please do not park in the shop/unmetered parks as these are allocated for shop staff and your car could get towed away or fined.

What is included in our charter?
All the help and advice you want from the skipper and deckhand (just ask!), water, soft drinks, sunscreen, bait, tackle and quality Penn and Shimano rods and reels.

You can keep, release or share legal fish you catch. We bleed gut, ice and bag the fish you catch for your convenience.

What should I bring?
We provide all the fishing equipment you will need, as well as bottled water, soft drinks, tea, coffee and biscuits.
We recommend you bring:

~ Food and drinks: You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks in a small esky/cooler. We recommend food that can be unwrapped and eaten comfortably such as sandwiches, fruit, individual packets of chips, as making food on the boat is difficult. Alcohol (cans only) is welcome in moderation.

~ Sunscreen

~ Suitable clothing and enclosed footwear – hat, sun safe clothing, rain jacket (depending on the weather)

~ Empty eskies/coolers for transporting fish – these should be left in your car.

How far out to sea do we go?
Our half day deep sea fishing charters may go up to 11 kilometers offshore, but generally we go between 1 and 5 kilometers. How far we go depends on the weather, target species and what’s on the bite.

On our full day deep sea fishing charters we go up to 40 kilometers, depending on the fishing season.

What are the target species?
Targets are dependent on the time of year but include Mackerel, Cobia, Tuna, Snapper, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Marlin, Yellow Tail Kingfish, Amberjack, Pearl Perch, Tusk Fish, Teraglin, Mulloway and Tailor.

Where do we fish?
We fish over rocky reefs and their edges in depths of 20m-50m on half day trips and 20m-100m on full day trips. Fishing locations largely depend on the season - summer can be in closer for big Mackerels for instance while in winter we may fish further out for the colored reef fish like snapper and tusk fish.

How do we fish onboard?
We have room for everyone to fish at the same time. Fishing techniques include usually all of the following: multi level pilchard and strip bait fishing, live baiting/any fish caught that is of legal size, lure spinning/ retrieving and lure trolling – whatever is working the best on the day. We happily assist as required, don’t worry if you are unsure about anything, we can teach or do it for you - whatever if you prefer.

I've never been fishing before, is that ok?
Yes, we happily assist all anglers to attain a good fishing technique in a fun environment.

Can I bring my own gear, food and drinks?
Yes, you can bring your own fishing gear, food, drinks, sunscreen etc.

Alcohol is permitted in moderation and preferably in cans.

Important Note - Alcohol & Unruly Behaviour

The skipper has the right to refuse to allow alcohol to be brought on the vessel.

If a group arrives for their charter clearly under the influence of alcohol and the skipper is of the opinion that the group is not in a suitable condition to take part in the charter, the trip will be cancelled and the full amount of charter will be forfeited.

The skipper reserves the right to refuse boarding to any person he or she believes is intoxicated prior to the commencement of the trip.

During a trip, should the consumption of alcohol result in unruly behavior, the skipper reserves the right to terminate the trip without refund.

Can I keep the fish?
Yes you can keep, release or share legal fish you catch. If your captures are kept, they are bled, gutted, iced and bagged for your convenience.

Do we reconfirm before the trip?
We will send a final confirmation text message (or call) at or near 5pm the afternoon before your charter.

Please continue to check your phone from the time you wake up to your trip start time in case weather or the charter information changes.

Do we check the weather?
Yes! We check the weather often and do not go out in unsafe weather or offshore conditions.

There are many very calm days and we do also go out in moderate weather. We can still fish well if the wind is up and we anchor when we have to. Rain doesn’t affect our fishing  and we will still take our vessel out when it rains.

A cancellation due to weather must be made by Avenger Fishing Charters (and not our guests), guests will be notified if this is the case. Weather forecasts are often harder to read than is believed and we have a few favorable wind directions for different times of year meaning that we can still complete your trip. Weather forecasts are not always accurate, depending on the source and the large area they are forecast for.

What is the weather like?
The weather is comfortable and mild during autumn, winter and spring, approximately 20 degrees centigrade during the day. Summer has typical tropical weather, often with cooling afternoon sea breezes. The temperature is approximately 30 degrees centigrade during the day.

Dress in layers, a jumper and tracksuit pants over shorts and a shirt is great for early morning cool weather but you will want to take off the warm clothes if it warms from any point in the day.

How long is the boat drive ride?
Due to our fast, stable vessel and departure location being close to the Gold Coast seaway you’ll have plenty of fishing time. Our first proven hot spot is only a 15 minute drive for regular catches of Mackerel, Cobia, Tuna, Shark, Tailor, Teragalin and live baits to use there and further out during the trip.

Do we go out in unsafe weather?
We don’t fish in unsafe weather. It is best for you to book early in your Gold Coast stay or work days off so that you can rebook later in your stay in case of strong winds and/or high seas. Rain doesn’t affect our fishing, there is usually less rain on the water/boat than on the land.
